Oedipus Rex Oedipus Rex is a book about a man named Oedipus, who before he was born had a prophecy to fulfill. The prophecy stated that Oedipus would kill his Father and marry his mother. Oedipus had many flaws, with one being inner blindness. Oedipus’s flaws and inner blindness played part in him being a static character because he was oblivious to the clues all around them, if he had caught the clues in time he could have saved his family of embarrassment. His pride and self absorption cause him and his family to have the most embarrassing and destructive downfall. Oedipus was a great leader, but he was also a man consumed in his flaws. He was very temperamental, Oedipus was never able to control†¦show more content†¦There were many people even telling him to open his eyes and see the clues, yet he still couldn’t see them. The first clue should have been when Jocasta states that she was told that her son would kill her husband and marry her. How common could a prophecy be that it is told exactly the same to two people. Another clue would have to been when he is informed that his â€Å"father† has died of an illness, yet the curse on the city of Thebes has yet to be lifted. I think personally that Oedipus is in a bit of denial, that is why he refuses to believe the truth. I think he is absolutely terrified of the fact that what Creon and Teiresias are saying in possible true. From the moment that Creon came to speak to him, it should have been like puzzle pieces coming together. Oedipus was terribly naive when it cam e to the situation. When Jocasta starts to come terms that Oedipus is her son, he just thinks that Jocasta believes he is the son of slaves. Oedipus was not only blind to the fact that he killed his father and married his own mother, but he was also blind to the fact that he had many flaws. When Oedipus and Jocasta finally came to terms that the prophecy was real, Jocasta commits suicide and Oedipus physically stabbed his eyes out.
